Heneral Luna Screening in Germany

More than 200 guests, most of them Filipinos, their families and friends from the states of North Rhine-Westphalia,  Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, attended the screening of Heneral Luna at the cinema of Filmforum NRW in Cologne on April 30, 2016.

This screening was a  joint project of the European Network of Filipino Diaspora (ENFiD) - Germany, the Philippine Embassy in Berlin, the Philippine General Consulate in Essen, Sentro Rizal, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Ambassador Melita Sta. Maria Thomeczek graced the event, together with Honorary Consul Heinz Peter Heidrich of the Philippine Consulate General in Essen and Consul  Rona Goce.  Ms. Celina Peñaflorida  of Artikulo Uno was there for the discussion after the film viewing.

Set during the Philippine-American war, Heneral Luna is the story of a short-tempered Filipino general who faced an enemy more formidable than the American army: his own treacherous countrymen. Ultimately, it was the general’s legendary temper and pride that brought him to his death when a pack of presidential guards assassinated him in broad daylight. While American newspapers were quick to point the blame to then President Emilio Aguinaldo, the mystery has never been completely solved and the General’s killers were never put to justice.

The screening was part of the Sentro Rizal Film Festival that was held in Cologne and Munich from April 28  to April 30, 2016.
